Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs 252707, 6 digits, 4 digits

Question
Hello,
Having trouble with a B&S 252707 0201 on an old Deere 111.  Engine would run at abnormally high RPM (don't have a tach to say exactly, but well above what it used to be) until it comes under load and then has no power. I cleaned and rebuild carb, set both mixture screws to a turn and a 1/2 out and still produced same result. Even when manually shutting the throttle plate, engine still races. Thinking maybe intake valve issue, but unit has 55lbs of compression. Is this adequate?

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Answer
Hello Tom:

If I Understand your Question Correctly; the Engine Runs at High Speed All the Time Once Started (No Idle). Remove the Carburetor and Make Sure the Throttle Control Valve is Still Attached to the Throttle Plate Thru Shaft. If you Can Not Control the Engine Speed by Manually Moving the Throttle Plate to Idle, then the Throttle Valve has Become Disconnected from the Throttle Plate Thru Shaft. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
