Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine swap?, briggs and stratten, shaft dia

Question
I have gravely rear engine mower with a briggs and stratten intec 20hp engine. Can I put a briggs 20hp vangaurd engine on with any problems. shaft dia and length are the same.

Hello Larry:

Other than the Stator/Alternator Wires Possibly being Different (ie. 1 Wire or 2 wire Stator/Alternator), you Should have No Problem Making the Change. I Forgot to Say. If the Stator/Alternator Wires are Different, then Mount the Engine and then Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off Both the Engines, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Instruct you on How to Wire the Stator/Alternator to Function Properly.
