Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): yardking transmission, rear axel, proper manuals

Question
QUESTION: I have an old Murry Yardking 25 hp, and it seems to have a hydrostatic transmission. The resevoir over the rear axel has green fluid in it. Do I fill it with hyrostatic trans fluid or motor oil, as I read in one of your other posts?

ANSWER: Hello John:

On the Transaxle is an OEM Identification Plate. Send me the Information Off of This Plate, Please. With this Information, I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist You. However, if the Fluid is Green in Color, then this May be an Earlier Model Hydro OEM Transaxle and it Uses Hydraulic Oil. The OEM and Model Information will Help me Identify the Transaxle and the Fluid it Requires. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

QUESTION: The best I could find was a sticker on the axle:
tuff toro K66 sn 003308
MRY P/N: 690224

The oil is clearly green, so I suspect it is hydraulic. If it is, Do you change this, or leave it for life? I know in cars how to change the trans fluid and filter, but since this is a hydraulic trans it is foreign to me. The tractor seems to propel itself well, I just want to know for maintenance sake. Thanks. Also do you have any idea when this machine was manufactured? ball park.

ANSWER: Hello Again John:

The Hydro Fluid is a Lifetime Oil in this Hydro Transaxle. If you Require Oil to be Added, then Transmission Fluid is Used. Usually the Only Time Oil is Added to the Hydro is if a Leak has Occured and Oil is Required or the Hydro has a Filter and then Oil is Added to Replace the Oil Lost when Changing the Filter. Tuff Torque Offers No Support for Locating the  DOM. If you Send me the Mower Model Numbers I Should be Able to Locate the DOM for you. QUESTION: yardking 25hp, mower model # 521613x89A
Motor B&S Intek v-twin model #445777 made in 2001

The reservoir just above the axle has barely any green fluid in it. From what I have read this transmission seems to run with hydraulic fluid. Can I use regular hydraulic fluid, do I need hydraulic trans fluid, or can I use regular ATF fluid?
thanks for the help so far.

Answer
Hi John:

You can Use Either Hydraulic Fluid or Automatic Transmission Fluid. If you are Just Adding to the Reservoir, then ATF will Work. If you are Draining and Refilling the Hydro, then Use Hydraulic Oil.
