Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): white billowing smoke when loaded, piston skirt, paddle shaft

Question
governor installed
governor installed
QUESTION: I tried to rebuild my Briggs 28n700 engine. it seemed to work out fine until I put it under load with the mower blades engaged. White smoke comes out of it like crazy. I think I may have installed the governor incorrectly or may not have the linkage installed correctly. Any ideas?

ANSWER: Does the engine rev too high or over speed?  Did you ever mess with the governor arm that is connected to the governor paddle shaft?

What prompted the engine rebuild?  Were the valves reground and were the valve guides in good shape?  Did you clean or replace the valve breather?  What weight of oil are you using?
Can you send me the engine type and code number so i can look up some information.

QUESTION: It was blowing oik like a guiser out of the breather into the air filter. So I changed the rings and breather assy. That problem is fixed. I did not take the valves apart but they seem to be doing their job.I didn't remove or mess with the governor paddle shaft, but it is not physically connected to anything inside the case. When the engine loads, the linkage dose not move. I'm not sure that I have the linkage to the carb istalled correctly, but I believe it is. The oil is Pennzoil 10w-30. Model is 28N707. type, 0121 01, Code,9310114A

Answer
I would switch to SAE-30 weight oil if you are not using the mower in cold weather.  This may help with some of the oil burning.  Does the mower have enough power and does the engine speed seem correct?

Did you used standard or chrome rings?  Did you hone the cylinder?  Was the plating on the piston skirt peeling off?
