Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): KOHLER 20CV WITH NO SPARK, spec numbers, scag

Question
HI.I HAVE A 20 HP KOHLER COMMAND PRO ON MY SCAG.I AM NOT GETTING ANY SPARK.I CHANGED THE TWO COILS,PLUGS,AND THE SAM.I DISCONNECTED THE WHITE WIRE GOING TO THE SAM TO ELIMINATE ANY FAULTY SAFTEY SWITCHES TO GROUND AND STILL NOTHING.IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE I SHOULD REPLACE LIKE THE MAGENET ON THE FLYWHEEL???

Answer
Hello John:

Disconnect the Wire from the Coils and See if you Get Spark. What are you Calling the SAM? Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. However, I had 1 in the Shop the Other Week with the Same Problem. The Customer had Replaced All the Components you have and I Found they had Sold him the Wrong Coils. I Turned the Coils Over and the Engine Started and Run Good Now. It Seems the Ign Module Pickup on the Coil was on the Wrong Side of the Coil when Mounted with the Words "This Side Out" Showing. Turn the Word Towards the Engine and the Coils Work Fine. It is Unlikely the Magnet is the Cause of this Problem. The Coils Mounted Wrong (need to be Turned Over) or the SAM (Ign Module?) is going to be the Cause. I Just Reviewed the Breakdowns of a CV20-65597 and CV20-65599 Engines that are Listed as being on the Scag Equipment and Did Not see a Seperate SAM (Ign Module). Disconnect the Shut Off Wire from the Coils and the Coils Should Fire. If the Plugs Fire, then a Safety Switch or a Grounded Wire in the Harness are going to be the Cause of your Problem. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Then Select the Series Engine and Follow the Sires Instructions to Locate the Breakdown. If you have the Model Numbers, then this Site is Easier to Locate the Breakdown. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
