Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Chainsaw, craftsman chainsaw, max rpms

Question
Model # 358.350810   40cc 18" bar  What are the low speed (idle) and max rpm settings for this saw.  I do have a 2cycle tach and know how to tune a saw.  I just don't want to exceed the max rpms.

Answer
Hello Pete:

The Idle is Set so the Engine will Idle But the Clutch will Not Turn the Chain. The High RPMs are Set to 4800 to 5500 and as Long as you Do Not Lean the Fuel Mixture too Much with the High Air Mixture Screw you can Rev as High as 8000 RPMs. I Usually Set the High RPM by Ear. Start the Saw and Hold the Throttle Full. Adjust the High Mixture Screw Until the Engine is Reving, then Make a Cut. If the Saw is Not Reving Properly, then Adjust the Mixture Screw and Cut Until you Get the Proper Cutting Action. Usually this is Going to be Between 3800 and 4800 RPMs. Some will Require 5500 to 6000 RPMs for Proper Cutting. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
