Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower, vacuum leak, kohler engine

Question
I have a 3 year old Crafstman Riding Mower Model 917.27310 with a 17.5 hp Kohler Engine Model CV490 Type 27532.
The problem is that once it has been running for 45 minutes to 1 hour it will start sputtering when going up any sort of incline. It seems like it is not getting enough fuel. I have replaced the fuel, fuel line, fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug. My father-in-law says it could be some kind of vacuum leak and then we both laughed because we have no idea what that means. Any ideas? Thanks, Eric

Answer
Hello Eric:

Usually there is 2 things that will Cause this Problem. 1- The Gas Tank Cap is Not Venting the Tank Properly. 2- The Coil/Ign Module is Breaking Down and Mis-Firing the Engine Under a Load. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers (CV490S-27532). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
