Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs&Stratton 12.5 28v707-1113, murray riding mower, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Murray riding mower with a B&S 12.5 HP motor. One day I was using ti and heard a loud clank and it died out. After that when I try to start it I can hear it spinning but doesnt really sound like anything is engaging(like it spins too freely). If I spin the cover that you can see on the top I can see the shaft underneath spinning. But I removed the sparkplug and looked inside and I dont see the piston moving up and down. This is the top of the piston right? I'm not looking into the chamber the valves are in am I? Is there something I can check to start ruling the starter out. I would appreciate all the help.

Answer
tell ya one easy way to handle this take your plug out and stick a screwdriver down the hole and turn it over by hand and see if the screwdriver moves up and down if it doesn't you have a blowed up engine if it does something else is wrong just let me know what happens

here is the thing I do it this way if you can't I really can't help you with this no more thanks for the neg feedback this is vol so I am only trying to help people along I am sorry I couldn't help you and the thing is you tell me you turn the top of the crank and the bottom moves yas it will because it is all conected as one solid piece so yea it will move and that tell me that you don't no to much about small engines but it does sound like you are on the way and if you want to know a sure way of checking this do a pressure check it will cost you some money but you will no for sure thanks and happy trails
