Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 12.5 model # 286707, crankcase oil, adjustment screws

Question
My riding mower was running great. After I stopped and tried to start it again, gas began pumping out of the muffler and air intake. Is this a timing issue and/or how do I fix it. Thanks

Answer
Hello Cody:

Check the Carburetor Needlle Valve. From your Description, it Sounds like the Needle Valve has Stuck Open. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If the Needle Valve is the Cause of the Problem, then Clean the Tank and Gas Line, Change the Filter, and  Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl, Float Pin, Float and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidental Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required. If this is a Riding Mower, then Install a Manual Cut Off Valve and Manually Turn Off the Gas Flow to the Engine when Not in Use. Check the Crankcase Oil. It May be Contaminated with Gas. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
