Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 1974 John Deerre 214 With 16 hp Kohler, hp kohler, water in the fuel

Question
This tractor has be restored to near original...looks great and ran great! Up
until today...it has a cyclic hesitation in the motor...then revs back to full
speed. The best i can describe it is rather like a wave. It seems to be
something to do with fuel/carb operation. Could it be water in the fuel? (bum
load of gas from the gas station?) I checked float levels, hi and low speed mix
screws etc. according to all i know about this motor. It ran amazingly well.
Then suddenly this...thanks in advance for any advice on where to start.

Answer
You need to remove the tank and clean it and the carb well.  If you are still running on stock fuel lines you will have debris from the inside of the fuel line ,it has deteriated over time, clogging your main jet.

Before installing the NEW fuel line on the carb, crank the engine a few times until fuel flows freely through the fuel pump to purge it of any debris.

Liability disclaimer, no smoking, or source of ignition when pumping fuel through the fuel pump.
