Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): swisher trail mower, briggs and stratton, hp briggs

Question
QUESTION: I have a Swisher trail mower with a 13 HP Briggs and Stratton motor with an electric start. For some reason, it will not stay running. It will idle fine but after engaging the blades, it runs for a few minutes and seems like it runs out of gas. It has good fresh gas in it and a new fuel filter. I don't understand why it does this. What would be your best guess what would be wrong with it? thanks

ANSWER: Hello Rich:

Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Cause for this Problem can be the Gas is Restricted when Flowing to the Carburetor, the Carburetors Internal Ports are Restricted and Restrict the Extra Gas Flow Required for the Engine to Operate Properly Under a Load or the Stator (Alternator) is Not Charging
properly and the Fuel Shut Off Valve in the Carburetor is Not Getting the Proper Voltage to Stay Open. This Happens with the PTO Engaged Blades. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck

QUESTION: The model number from what I can remember since I am not home is RK1360. I am pretty sure that is right. Another question I had is...Why would the starter solinoid keep going out? I have replaced it every spring for the last 3 years. Thanks

Answer
Hello Again Rich:

Replace the Battery Cables with Larger Cables. The Cables Diameter is too Small and can Not Carry Enough Current to the Solenoid and Cause the Solenoids Internal Contacts to Burn. Also, I am Sorry but I failed to Ask for the Serial Numbers Off the Mower. It has been a While Since I had to Look One of these Up and it Slipped My Mind. Thanks.
