Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Riding Mower Problem, fuel stabilizer, tractor model

Question
Hi Paul, Have a 11 year old Craftsman tractor, model #917.256810, with B&S engine model #28N707 - Problem last year with gas leaking and paid $30+ for used replacement carburetor when guy fixing it said the float was stuck causing it to leak. t ran okay a few times before parking it for winter. Luckily I don't have much grass growing here in the Florida sand, because this year the same thing is happening. It won't start; half a tank of gas put in yesterday was gone this morning - gone somewhere/somehow, AND it won't roll for me to put on a trailer to take to get fixed! My neighbor says it's a stuck float again, but what are the chances this same prob would happen in another carburetor? OR is it a common problem in this model? Anything you can offer up will certainly be appreciated. Sincerely, Terri for Allen (84 years old)

Answer
The chances of it happening again are excellent if you don't use a fuel stabilizer.  It's not a problem with this model, it's a problem with "ALL" models if not put away properly.

On the back bumper you should see a crude picture of a little guy pushing a tractor.  Right beside him there will be a metal rod.  Pull the rod out and you will be able to push the tractor.
