Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Grasshopper 725k2 - PTO will not engage, test light, fuel gas

Question
My Grasshopper 725K2 was working fine until I ran out of gas with the blades engaged. I turned the key to off and pushed the PTO switch down to dis-engage the blades and filled up the mower.  When I restarted the mower, and lifted the PTO switch, nothing happened.  The mower will run but the blades will not turn. Listening for the clicking sound when lifting the switch, I hear nothing. The switch seems to be ok because the mower will not start with the PTO switch up. Any suggestions? The year of the mower is either 2002 or 1992.

Answer
Sorry Robert, Not a Grasshopper man.

In general this is what I would do.  Get out a test light and see if you are getting power to the PTO clutch plug.  If you get voltage you need a clutch.  If no voltage trace the wire back from the clutch (it will be the same color all the way) until you finally find 12 volts.  Replace the component the voltage stops at.

The start circuit in the PTO switch and the clutch circuit are just that, circuits.  Just because 1 works doesn't mean the other does.

One thing I do know.  Running out of fuel, ("gas" is what my Dad gets when he goes to "Taco Bell"), didn't cause the PTO problem.
