Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 3.5hp, carberator, oil smoke

Question
I have a 3.5hp Older BS lawnmower, It's the good old engine with all the fancy stuff found on todays motors. Flat head design, Anyway, I turned my mower upside down to sharpen the blades when oil started gushing out of the carberator. Now since then everytime I start it oil smoke puffs out for about 10seconds, "Cold start only". What could be the problem there? It runs great and oil is good, Be it has never smoked upon start up until I sharpened the blades and oil came  out of the carb. Not a little I say abbout half a quart came out. The motor I believe is 88 or 89 year.,

Answer
The oil got into the valve breather and then into the carb via the tube running from the vavle breather to the carb.  There is probably some oil in the carb.  Also you should remove the valve breather and clean it by spraying parts cleaner through it.
If you starter the mower and got some oil in the muffler it will take a while for the smoking to stop because the oil has to burn out of the muffler.  You can remove the muffler and spray parts cleaner through it to help clean some out some of the oil.
