Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton Engine Wont Stay Running, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Briggs & Stratton 6HP Engine (Model#12W802, Type 117401, Code 95122158) on a Yardman 21" Rotary Mower (Model 849)that will not stay running. When I choke it (wish I really could, HA!), it will run for a second or two and then die. Once I had it barely idling for about 5 seconds or more and I had to keep playing with the governor control arm. I have put a new primer bulb in it that was leaking gas, replaced the needle valve, float and gaskets, o-ring, spark plug, breather tube (it was cracked)and air filter. I still can't get it to run any better than I did before I did this work to it. What have I missed here or failed to check?

Answer
Hello Jerry:

Did you Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner? Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air? The Only True Way to Properly Clean a Small Engine Carburetor is Soaking. Varnish Build Up Over Time in the Internal Passages of the Carburetor and Restricts the Flow of Gas to the Jets. Even Using Spray Carburetor Cleaners Do Not Clean the Carburetors. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File # 12. Then Select the Folder # 12W800. This Carburetor has No Adjustments for the Air Mixture. If this is a Plastic Carburetor; you May want to Purchase a New One. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
