Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L110, drive pulley, valve clearance

Question
Hi John,

I have this lawn tractor with about 40 hrs on the clock. Everythings been fine but about a week ago as I was cutting grass, I noticed she wasn't accelerating like she should. I had the pedal floored but was only getting about half the power to the back wheels....

What do you think?

Thanks,
Jeff

Answer
Hello Jeff:

Is the Engine Turning the Proper RPMs? Check the Carburetor Shut Off Solenoid. If the Solenoid is Bad or Going Bad, this will Happen. When was the Carburetor Cleaned and Rebuilt Last (Remove, Disassembled and Soaked Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install a New Kit if Required.)? There May be Trash in the Main Jet Restricting the Gas Flow to the Engine. Is the Muffler or Exhaust Port Clogged? A Restriction in the Exhaust Port or Muffler will Cause this Problem. The Valves are Giving a Lot of Problems; the Valve Clearance May need Adjusting. A Weak Fuel Pump will Cause this Problem, Also.  Check the Drive Pulley and the Idler Pulleys and the Transaxle Pulleys. I have Seen a Split Pulley Cause this Problem Also. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
