QuestionI have a 2003 JD LT160 with a Kohler CV460s spec 26513 engine with about 300 hours run time. The last few days, I've had a problem where the engine shuts down suddenly. After shutdown, it will crank, but will not start. If I let it sit for some period of time, 20 - 30 minutes, it will typically start immediately. Once started, it runs normally, with no sign of power loss or roughness prior to shutdown. On one occasion, it shut down a few seconds after starting, and I was unable to start it again for about 15 minutes. Gas is fresh and tank is full, and it looks like fuel is getting thru the filter. Up to this point, it has always run well, and has had regular maintenance. The suddenness of the shutdown leads me to suspect an intermittent in the ignition system, but I'm wondering if there's something else I should look for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
AnswerWhen the mower shuts off you need to immediately check for spark. I'm guessing you won't have any.
If you don't have spark you need a coil, common problem.
If you have spark things gets a lot more complicated. Test for spark, if you have spark post a follow up. I'm 99% sure we don't need to go into the 500 word essay on what else could be wrong.
