Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kubota AT70s tiller, shaft seals, competent mechanic

Question
Hello John,

My AT70s tiller needs a bearing and seal on the tiller shaft.  I've found breakdown diagrams on the internet.  I am a moderately competent mechanic but after studying the diagram I am a bit intimidated.  (That my be my hint to have a professional do the job.)

The questions:
1)  Does opening the tiller shaft case require dissembling and reassembling all the gearing as the diagram suggests?  If not, what's the trick?
2) What might I expect for a professional to charge for the job (2 bearings and seals.)

Thanks,
John Puma

Answer
Hello John:

>>Usually the Tiller Shaft Seals can be Replaced without Disassembling the Gears. The Breakdown Shows the Seals are Removed without Disassembling the Case. Remove the Tines and then Remove the Oil Seals. However, if this is a Different Design, then
>>Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
>>***Adapter. Sand the Shaft with Emory Cloth Sand Paper and Remove All the Rust and Burrs. Then Using a Flat Head Screwdriver, Pop Out the Old Seal. Sometimes, you have to Use a Small Cutting Chisel and Cut the Seal First.
>>Thanks.
