Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda HR194 Mower, honda hr194, mechanical linkage

Question
The throttle control lever on the handle of this mower no longers controls engine RPMs.  The engine runs at very high RPMs irrespective of throttle control position.

This condition came on all of a sudden.  The mower had been in use some 10-15 minutes and then was shut off for a few minutes.  When it was restarted, throttle control was gone.

By grasping the large lever arm (under the air filter) that rotates about a bolt in the engine block, I can manually regulate engine RPM from slow idle to max.  I have examined the mechanical linkage around this arm, and it appears to be complete.

Do you have any advice for me?  The engine runs fine.

Answer
Hello Merrill:

The Large Lever Arm Should have a Spring Attached to it that Pull on  the Arm when you Move the Throttle Cable Control. Go to this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Now Select Mower. Then Select your Model. Then Select the Control File. The Spring # 3 is the One I'm Talking About. If the Throttle Cable is Moving the Control (#5) and the Spring is Attached, then the Control is Broken. Make Sure the  Throttle Cable Shield Lock (cable holder #7) is Tight and the Cable Shield is Stationary when Moving the Throttle Cable. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
