RV Repair: NORCOLD REFRIDGERATOR, burner tube, orfice

Question
I HAVE ANORCOLD MODEL 662 THAT WAS WORKING FINE BUT IT RECENTLY STARTED TO NOT WORK ON AC SIDE AND NOW HAS STARTED TO CLICK AND TURN THE GAS OFF AFTER 5 TO 10 MINUTES.I HAVED CHECKED TO CONFIRM THAT I HAVE PROPANE AND HAVE CLEANED THE ORFICE AND BURNER TUBE.THIS IS AN INTERMITENT PROBLEM AND UNIT STILL GETS COLD WHEN BURNER IS WORKING.SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE A NUMBER OF AUDIBLE CLICKS,5 TO 10 BEFORE FLAME GO'S OUT.ANY IDEAS? THANKS SCOTT

Answer
Scott,

Intermittent problems are hard to diagnose, even harder from a distance.  As for it quitting on AC I would first check the heating element with an ohm meter.  It should show somewhere around 40.  If it's reading resistance it's probably okay, you just don't want to see and open circuit or shorted circuit on the two wires that come from it.  If it's okay I would check the fuse on the lower circuit board on the rear of the frig.

Is the click you her before it shuts off on gas the ignitor trying to light the flame?  If its not it may be the relay on the board for the AC clicking in and out, trying to switch to AC.  Do you have a good strong 12 volts at the frig and is there a battery on this unit?  You could be getting a high AC ripple from the converter which can cause things to not work right.  A battery will act like a filter and help this.  I hope this helps.
