Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 345 No Spark, john deere 345, cam sensor

Question
QUESTION: Hello, My Deere just turned 116hrs and has no spark. Please help.

ANSWER: Wow Tom. Not much to go on here. How about a little history.

Both sides or only 1 side.

Hot or cold?

My most common repair for this in my shop would be a tdc module, It will cost about 15.00. But remember, I'm behind on my "Psychic Hotline" Dues!! That is just a guess based on parts sales.

QUESTION: lol..sorry, It's both sides. it was running good then shut off. kept trying to crank but, it would not. I let it cool down and it ran for 30 secs then shut off again. never to restart cold or hot.
btw ... where is the tdc sensor located? is this also refered to as the Cam sensor?

Answer
The tdc isn't really a sensor. It's the thing that makes your mower shut off about 2 seconds after you turn the switch off. If you did not have this "module" your engine would backfire everytime you hit a bump.

TDC stands for time delay control. It's a little plastic box bolted to the left (drivers side) of the engine. It will be about 2"x3".

In my shop this is such a cheap and common repair we ALWAYS try it first.
