Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet 3225 Stopping, carburetor jets, kohler command

Question
I have a Cub Cadet 3225 with a Kohler Command 22hp Engine.  The tractor has 400 hours on it and has ran fairly well over the years.  Lately after about 20-30 minutes of mowing the engine putters to an abrupt stop.  You can try to choke it to keep it running but it usually just dies.  You can restart and it idles fine but as soon as you put a load on it it cuts out and dies on you.  Let it sit for a while and it runs fine again.  Air cleaner is clear.  Spark plugs look fine.  I suspect some sort of overheating (because why else would it just die after 30 minutes) but have no idea why it would just stop on me like that.  The mower has also cut out one me once or twice when going up or down steeper hills.  Could this be related or is that another issue?

Answer
Hello Shawn:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Gas Cap isn't Venting the Tank Properly or the Shut Off Solenoid is Heating Up and Shutting Off the Gas to the Carburetor Jets. You said you can Restart and it Idles But you Rev Up or Put a Load on the Engine and it Quits. Check the Gas Tank Cap and the Gas Filter. This will Also cause the Problem with Going Up and Down Hills. If it was the Coil/Ignition Module, it would need to Cool for 10 to 15 Minutes and then it will Restart. This is Usually True for the Shut Off Solenoid too. However, this May Not be the Case here. Remove the Shut Off Solenoid and Replace it with a Bolt the Same Diameter and Threads and About 1/2 to 3/4 Inches Long. Install it Where the Solenoid Goes. Operate the Engine. If it Operates Properly, then Replace the Shut Off Solenoid. I Don't Suggest you Continue to Operate the Mower Without the Solenoid. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.emerichsales.com/home.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Catalog. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Cub Cadet). The Enter the Model Numbers 3225. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
