Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl FS44 Trimmer wont start, model airplane engines, stihl fs44

Question
I bought this trimmer new in 1995.  It has been a while since it ran like I thought it ought to (I run 2 cycle gas model airplane engines).  Anyway, this year, it won't start.  Was working just okay when I put it up in October (didn't drain gas but wasn't much there).

I put in a tank of new gas/oil.  It 'popped' maybe twice, but never came close to starting.  Then it flooded bad.  That was days ago.  Now, I bought new plug, pulled off rear housing and cleaned and checked everything including muffler screen.  I pulled on it while observing plug, and in my opinion, the spark isn't very big.  It will not even pop now and I have worn a blister pulling on it.  I has been used for home lawn only.

My question is:  Is it worth putting any money into to take it somewhere (to expert), and if so, how much would you put in it before buying a new $200 one?

Answer
Hello Steve:

You have Eliminated the Exhaust Port and Muffler as the Cause and it was Running Good when you Stored it Last Winter so; From your Description, it Sounds Like the Carburetor Needs to be Removed, Disassembled and Soaked Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a New Kit if Required. The Pulse Pump Needle is Sticking and Either Flooding or Starving the Engine of gas. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
