Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 6.5 HP 21 mulcher 917.388750 doesnt start, question pool, gunk

Question
I have a Craftsman 6.5HP 21" mulcher, model # 917.388750. I primed it a few times and tried to start, but it doesn't start. I know the flywheel is rotating.

I filled the tank with gas. Engine oil is 1/4th length from the tip. The spark plug looks clean from the outside. I got this mower from the previous owner. I have no manual.

Any suggestions would be great. Also, please direct me where to get owner's manual.

Thanks,
Bharani

Answer
Hello Bharani:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Search Box at the Upper Left of the Page. Then Visually Verify the Mower and Click Continue. Then Select View Parts List. The Owners Manual is Sear Part #181610. Check the Spark Plug for Fire. If the Plug is Firing, then Pour a Small Amount of Gas (Approx 1oz)Into the Carburetor Throat. Try to Start the Engine. If it Starts and Quits, then Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install New Kit. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
