Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 10hp Kohler starting issue rider, hello bill, trottle

I have a K241s kohler engine 1975. I'm having trouble starting it doesn't need much choke and the trottle must be in lowest position. When I do get it started it idles and high speed is great. I installed a new plug set at.030 and points set at.018.

Check the Compression. Low Compression can Cause the Problem you Described. The Suction from the Intake Stroke Isn't Enough Due to Low Compression and Can't Pull the Gas through the Carburetor if the Throttle is Set above Low. Once Started the Intake Suction Increases and the Engine Operates Normally. Send Me All the Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
