Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Homelite Powerstroke 23av chainsaw engine, dick dick, boat anchor

Question
I have had a small homelite saw for over 15 years, it finally broke, and I replaced it with a Homelite 23 av 16" saw. My problem is I cannot start the new saw after it has been unused for a awhile. I had it serviced a year and a half ago but it still can not be started after setting 6 months. I have noticed this seems to be common with all my 2 cycle engines.  Is this a typical?, and what do you suggest I do to get my saw up and running. I only have about 40 hours of intermittant total run time on the saw.
Please help me, thank you, Dick.

Answer
Dick, run you saw and other equipment out of gas when you are not going to use them.
Fuel only last about 45 days if you don't use a fuel stabilizer.
Your first Homelite saw was a decent product. As far as I'm concerned your new saw was a boat anchor when it was new.
When it comes to chainsaws you get what you pay for and you bought the cheapest thing you could find, right, it's like I'm a psychic isn't it.
