Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scott Lawn Mower, briggs and stratton, proper manuals

Question
QUESTION: I have a Scott lawnmower 6.0 HO w/ a Briggs and Stratton engine, that won’t start.  When I lean it back a bit and/or try and start it, gas is leaking out of the back.  I have checked to make sure that the gas line to the carburetor is ok, and it is.  The gas is coming out of the top back part of the engine.  Could the head be cracked?  It has plenty of oil.
ANSWER:   Hello Christopher:

Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower and the Model and Type Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. Thanks.

 Good Luck

QUESTION: The model # of the Scott is 228510X8A (which I think was made my Murray.  The only model number I can find on the Briggs and Stratton is 'Family YBsXS-1901YC 274466.  Does that help?

Answer
 Hello Christopher:

Check the Gas Tank for a Crack. From the Breakdown/IPL that I Viewed from the Model Numbers you Supplied; I can See only One Cause for this and that is the Tank. There is No Other Reason for Gas to be Coming from the Top of the Engine where you Described. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
