Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda hr214 lawn mower, honda hr214 lawn mower, oil drain plug

Question
what is the correct way to change the oil in this type of mower? What type of oil etc..  We bought it a couple of years ago from a neighbor and did not get the owners manual.

Answer
DO NOT tilt the mower on it's side because oil can enter the carburetor.

REMOVE the spark plug BEFORE working on the mower.  On the side of the engine or under the deck you should see an oil drain plug.  Remove the plug to drain the oil.

Another method you can use is to purchase an oil pump that fits onto a drill.  This tool lets you pump/siphon warm oil out of the dipstick/oil fill tube.  This is what we do at the shop.  Start and warm the engine for about 10 minutes.  Shut-off the mower, remove the dipstick and insert to pump/siphon tube into the dipstick tube.  Run the drill to pump out the oil.

With the oil drained refill with about 15-20 ounces of SAE-30 engine oil.  Let the mower sit and check the oil level.  Very easy with the right tool.
Let me know if this helps.
