Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower repair, briggs and stratton, thread tape

Question
As I was changing the oil for the winter I had difficulty getting the plug out because it was stripped so I went to the next plug it was attached to and as I was screwing that one back into the block it cracked something I believe and as time went on I found a puddle of oil which really did not surprise me-It could be as simple as I did not get that tight enough but really doubt it because it was a really bear at first but then it got easy as I kept tightening it and that's when my intuition told me to stop and something wasn't right. Got any suggestions. It is a steel threaded plug which threads into a briggs and stratton 12hp( riding motor)

Answer
 Hello BO:

It Sounds like you Cracked the Oil Pan. Remove the Plug and Use Thread Tape. If you have the Leak after Using the Thread Tape, the the Oil Pan is Cracked. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
