Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 318 wont stay running, merry christmas and happy new year, sectional view

Question
John, I read your reply to Lisa about her 318.  Ours is similar problem.  We checked the harness and don't see any problems there.  I put a meter on the input terminal to the ignition coil and the voltage was 14.5-15VDC when it was running.  Then it started falling and the engine died when it got to about 10VDC.  What can be robbing the power?

Answer
 Hello Tim:

How Long Does it Take for the Voltage to Drop? It May be the Stator Isn't Charging or the Regulator is Bad and Once the Voltage Gets to 10.0VDC the Coil Doesn't Fire and Shuts Off the Engine. You can View a Breakdown/IPL at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Select the Model in the Search Results Area. Then Select Sectional View. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Asistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
