Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl Chainsaw 028 AV, stihl chainsaw, stihl 028

Question
I got a Stihl 028 AV chainsaw from a family member and ran 1-2 tanks of fuel through it.  Then it started cutting out as I would accelerate it.  It would run at an idle, but not accelerate.  I thought I'd start with the easy stuff, so I replaced the fuel line and filter.  Now it won't start unless I put a little fuel in the carburetor and it will die after it uses that up.  If I get a carb kit, how difficult is it to put in.

Answer
 Hello Eric:

Remove the Muffler and Check the Exhaust Port for Blockage. Check the Muffler and the Spark Arrestor Screen(inside the Muffler) for Blockage also. If these are Clear, then Remove the Carburetor and Send me the OEM(Walbro, Zama, ect) and Model Numbers Off the Carburetor, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Carburetor and Better Assist you. With the Breakdown/IPL I feel you can Clean and Rebuild the Carburetor. The Carburetor needs to be Soaked Overnight in Carburetor Cleaning Solution(I use Gunk) and then Blow out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. Hope this Helps. I am here if you require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
