Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): fast idle after cleaning carburetor, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
Hi John,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes, the linkage and springs were put back in their original position... When I cleaned the carburetor, I made sure there were no obstructions to the throttle plate and that it moved freely. The Briggs & Stratton engine number is as follows: 10H902/0285E1/03112455

Thanks for your time.

Mike

-----Question-----
Hi,

I've got a Bolens push mower with a Briggs & Stratton 4.5hp engine. There's no speed control, only a deadman's handle. The idle control is apparently controlled by a vane connected to the throttle valve with several attached springs.

Previously, the engine was surging, so I took apart the carburetor and cleaned everything thoroughly, but now the engine is in a permanent fast idle.

There's no apparent idle adjustment, so how do I fix this idle problem?

Your kind response would be greatly appreciated.

 Hello Mike:

Did you get the Linkage and Springs back in the Proper Place? Does the Throttle Plate on the Carburetor Move Freely? Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these, I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

The Only Things that will Cause this Problem are; 1- Bent/Damaged Linkage. 2- The Linkage Not Connected to the Governor Arm or the Carburetor Control Plate Correctly. 3- The Carburetor Control Flap Screws are Coming Out and the Control Flap isn't Functioning Properly. This is a Non Adjustable Carburetor. You can View the Engine at this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0& and Enter the Model Numbers 10H902 and the Type Numbers 0285 and Search. Then Scroll Down to the Second Listing and Click View PDF. Hope this Helps. I an here if you Require more  Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
