Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Carburetor / Choke, vacuum leak, vacuum hose

Question
John, Is it at all possible that the problem (in time) will rectify on it's own, simply by running the engine with the choke open. Or are you of the opinion that the carburetor must defiantly be cleaned or rebuilt? Lastly could you possibly email directions on removing the carb and cleaning the carb?    ED

-----Question-----
John, Thanks for your quick response ! I removed the air filter and checked that the vacuum hose was still attached. I cleaned the carb's throat with choke & carb cleaner, lubricated the linkage and even put in new plugs.I also sprayed all exposed wires with Gunk "wire dryer". But the same problem persists. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that if I decrease the throttle, I've gotta close the choke more, open the throttle, I've gotta open the choke slightly. But still open much less than half choke.
The thing runs fine as long as it's choked !

-----Question-----
I aggressively (and mistakenly)used a pressure washer to clean the B&S 16.5hp.engine on my Yard Machine lawn tractor and ever since, it'll run, only when I choke the carb. about 50% or so. Although when I do keep it choked it runs great, both at low speed and high. Open the butterfly, the engine stalls, close the butterfly, the engine stalls, gotta be around half and all is well.
Can ya help? ,,..Thanks  ED

 Hello Ed:

Check for a Vacuum Leak. I Wash All my Equipment with a Pressure Washer and have No Problems. If the Crankcase Vent/Breather has been Knocked Off of the Carburetor it will do as you Described. Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these , I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Hello Ed:

Try Cleaning the Carburetor. It May have Gotten Trash/Water Into the Jet. Water Will Sometimes Clog the Main Jet and Not Get Pulled Through. You May want to Rebuild the Carburetor if the Engine is Over 2yrs Old. Otherwise Just Disassemble and Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. You are Using the Choke Port as the Main Jet when you are Increasing RPM's and Closing the Choke to get the Fuel for the Increased RPM's. Also, I Leave the Engines Running when I Pressure Wash them. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Ed:

I Really Don't Expect this to Cure Itself. If you can View the Breakdown/IPL of the Carburetor; I Feel you can Clean and Rebuild the Carburetor. Go to this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File Number 42. Then Select the Folder Number 42A700. This will Download a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Carburetor. Remove and Disassemble the Carburetor. Soak Overnight in Gunk Carburetor Cleaner and then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
