Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): STX38, jumper cables, sectional index

Question
My blades have just recently stopped engaging when I pull the Switch. I thought it might be the relay but I replaced the switch and it still will not engage. My battery is dead and I have been jumping it from my car battery.

I noticed that when the jumper cables are connected (and the engine is running) the blades will engage when the switch is pulled but, of course the engine shuts down because I'm not sitting in the seat. The problem resumes when the jumper cables are disconnected.

Is it simply that I need a battery that holds a charge to get the blades to engage or is it something else?

Thanks,
Tom

Answer
 Hello Tom:

Check the Output of the Stator(charger). What Voltage does the Battery Show when the Engine is at Full Throttle? If the Stator isn't Charging, then there isn't Enough Voltage to Engage the Electric PTO. Please Note: John Deere has Suggested a Change from the Lower Amp Stator to the Higher Amp Stator. You can view a Breakdown of this Mower at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers STX38 and Click Find. Then Click on the Model in the Search Results Area. Then Select Sectional Index. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower from here. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
