Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler 15.5 hp mower Electrical, fly wheel, motor voltage

My problem is The mower stopped running the coil under fly wheel pulg burnt up Removed fly wheel and need to know how to test the coil of what ever that thing is One side is 12 volts but what should the other side have and with it not on motor voltage flows but when its mounted nothing is it shorted any help I could use

 Hello Allen:

 The Unit Under the Flywheel is the Stator(charger). If it Smoked; Replace it. A Stator that has Smoked is No Good and Not Repairable. Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps.
