Question -
I have a Troy-Bilt Pony that is several years old (model 609). It has a 42" deck with a manual PTO. It was running great when I ran the side of the deck into a small berm. The deck fell off the mower and I lost the 2 clevis pins on the front bracket and the return spring on the PTO lever. All other parts appear to be intact. I got all the replacement parts and put it all back together.

However, now the PTO lever appears to move too far. Before, it was at the 8:00 position and I would move it to around 11:00 to engage the blades and the lever would stop there.

Now it is at the 8:00-9:00 position but it swings all the way to 2:00. Once it hits 11:00 or 12:00, the blades engage and the engine revs up. However, at this position, it either flys back to 8:00 or past 12:00 to the 2:00 position. At 2:00, the belt loosens slightly and the blades stop spinning.

I have taken everything apart about 15 times and carefully studied the parts manual and just can't figure out how the lever is supposed to stop at 12:00 and why it is swinging too far and loosening the belt. It almost seems like the belt is too long. I have it routed correctly as far as I can tell.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Dean:

It Sounds Like a Component of the PTO Assembly is Bent. Go to this Addy http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Click on Parts Look Up. Then Select the OEM(Troy-Bilt) and Enter the Model Numbers 13BX609G063 and Click Search. Then Double Click on the Model in the Search Results Area. This will Open a New Window for you to View this  Mower. Select the PTO Drive, Battery, Frame Components. On the Right Side is the Manual PTO. Enlarge the Diagram and Ensure you have Connected the PTO Spring Properly and that None of the PTO Components are Damaged or Bent. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
