Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 111 Lawn Tractor, manual transaxle, sectional index

Question
It is a manual transaxle.  A frind tells me there is a way to tension the belt, but the dealer said it is self tensioning.  Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Question -
John,

Thanks for the quick response.  Is there a tension pulley or spring that could be causing the problem?  The belt is not completely broken, could a worn or stretched belt cause the problem?

Thanks again.

Question -
My John Deere 111 fires up, but sometimes when riding, with the PTO engaged, it comes to a stop.  The blades are still turning, the engine does not sound as if it lost any power, but the drive wheels stop making it go forward.  I can change to a different gear and it may or may not go.  Typically with a push or rocking it, it will start to go again.  Is there a problem with the clutch?  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance for any information.

 Hello Doug:

Has the Belt been Replaced? When the Mower is Moving is there a Hesitation while Moving? From your Description it can be the Belt or a Broken Gear in the Transaxle. You can View a Breakdown of this Mower and Transaxle at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H and Enter the Model Number. Then Click on the Model in the Search Results Ares. Then Select the Sectional Index. Then Select Transaxle Gears, Shifter Rods, Forks and Rear Axle. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Hello Doug:

Is this a Hydrostatic or Hydromatic Transaxle or a Manual Transaxle? Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Doug:

There is No Belt Adjustment for the Transmission/Transaxle. A Spring Holds the Tension on the Belt Idler. It Sounds like a Belt Problem. You can Locate the Spring and a Complete Breakdown of the Transaxle at the Addy I Provided Earlier. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Addistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
