Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 10hp briggs, compression check, carburator

Question
i have a 10hp briggs will start run 4or5 min then die. new coil new gas new plug sprayed carb cleaner on and in carb also new air and gas filter. motor #268707-1142ei-01026820v2

Answer
 Hello Rex:

Just because the Coil is New Doesnt mean it is Good. Recheck the Spark when the Engine Quits. I have had Coils Last 1 Day and I have had them Bad Out of the Box. Spraying the Carburator Most likely Didnt Help. Check the Gas Tank Cap and Ensure it is Venting Properly. If it is, Run the Engine until it Quits and Do a Compression Check, then. If the Compression is Less than 70psi,then there May be a Blown Headgasket or the Valve Lash needs to be Reset or the Rings are Worn Out and the Block is Expanding Past the Ring Expansion Limits. If the Compression is Greater than 70p, then Remove the Carburator and Disassemble the Carburator and Soak it Overnight in Cleaning Solution(carburator cleaner). Then Blow Out All the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a Rebuild Kit. **Most Likely the Carburator or Tank Cap is the Cause for your Problem. Hope this Helps.  Good Luck
