Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and straton engine on troy bilt: Engine starting trouble, briggs straton, lawnmover

Question
Thanks for your quick reply!.

Here are the details that you had asked for.

Lawn Mover: TRoy Bilt
Model No: 12AV839N711

Engine: Briggs & Straton
Model - 127602
Type  - 0370-E1
Code  - 040927F(0/D)

The last letter in the Code above is either 0 or D. I couldn't figure it out as it was very dusty.

I need help in getting my engine cleaned up and started. Like you said earlier, I guessed it was the carburetor that has gone bad as this component was the closest to the Air Filter which had too much dust/grass particles.

So how do I go about cleaning up the carburetor and what tools do I need and do I need to do any other cleanup/tuneup needed apart form this.

Appreciate your help

Question -
I have a troy bilt lawnmover with briggs and straron engine. THe engine starts after priming the buld 3-4 times but it stops after a few secs. I replaced the air filter which was very dusty. I never replaced of cleaned the air filter ever since I bought it a year ago. I didn't know these things have air filters and fuel filters.

I am wondering else needs to be cleaned. How do I locate the carburetor and what needs to be done to clean it. This mover doesn't seem to have an oil filter because I couldn't find any other replacement part other than the air filte at the lowes.

Why would it start after priming and then stop after a few secs?

 Hello Srinivas:

From your Description I suggest you Clean and Rebuild the Carburator. The Jet inside the Carburator is Gummed Up with Varnish that Gas will Form. The Primer works Off of a Different Port than the Jet. Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown for you to View Online and this will Assist you in this Repair. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance.
