Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan riding lawn mower, steep grade, john hunt

Question
I move to Virginia from Florida and brought my mower with me. My lot has a steep grade and my mower will not stop when I push in the clutch/brake. Do I need to adjust the brakes. Thanks John Hunt

Answer
There's not a lot of adjustment.  In fact, there's not a lot of brake.  It's just a little disc with pads on the transaxle.  It may not be enough to stop your mower on your new property.

You can check the brake, it'll be on the right side of the transaxle on the top.  Make sure it's engaging by having someone push the pedal in and out.  You might try replacing the pads too.  Dirt and grass can keep it from fully engaging and if there's any oil or grease, obviously that will make it slip.

I have the same problem myself, the little brake just isn't enough.  Thanks, PK.
