QuestionMower model no. 917.272056, Kohler 16hp CV460. 5 years old. One mow, engine trouble turning over to start (thought starter going?). The next mow, on start, engine struggled to turn over,turned very slow, did not start. Then just clicking. Now nothing with turning key, sometimes a "hum".
Replaced battery, solenoid, plug, checked fuse. Connected positive battery terminal to starter and starter turns, but doesn't turn motor, just sounds like starter drive is turning.
Ignition switch?

Remove and Check the Starter. From your Description it Sounds like the Starter Drive Gear is Stripped and the Starter May be Dragging/Binding when it is Engaged with the Flywheel. You can View a Breakdown of this Engine at this Addy http://www.partstree.net/parts.asp and Click on Parts Look Up. On the Next Page Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers. When the Search Results come up, Double Click on your Mowers Model. This will Open the Illustrated Parts List for this Engine. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.
