Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine shuts down w/ foot off of brake, seat safety, emergency brake

Question
I have a Murray tractor which would not start. I replaced the solenoid and now it starts fine. The problem now is when I let my foot off the brake/clutch the engine will cut off. I checked all my connections to solenoid and everything looks correct. I can also engage the blades without a problem. I am guessing it may be the switch under the seat since the mower used to stay on if the emergency brake was engaged and the seat was up. Is there a simple way to test if it is this and can you suggest any other sources of this problem. Thank You... Dan

Answer
 Hello Dan:

You are Correct in thinking about the Seat Safety. Jumper the Switch and if the Problem is Gone, then the Seat Switch is Bad. If Not, then Check the Harness while Moving the Clutch/Brake Pedal. The Clutch/Brake Linkage May be Rubbing the Harness and Grounding the System. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
