Brand new mower.  Added too much oil and when it starts in conks out within a minute or two.

Answer
Did you drain some of the oil out of the engine?

Is the air filter saturated with oil?  You may want to remove the spark plug and pull the starter rope several times to drain any oil from the cylinder.

With the mower on concrete, remove the air filter and see if the mower will run for 5-10 minuetes.

I would also recommend purchasing a new spark plug.
