Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): s1742 - no click - wont start, clutch linkage, sending the signal

Question
First, thanks for any help in dealing with this matter.

I have a scotts 17hp 42in rider, that isn't starting. When turning the key in the ignition there is no "clicking" of the engine. I think that this may have something to due with the safety mechinism. My last few mow jobs, i was unable to use the override and mow backward, and at one point in time the mower couldn't be driven in reverse (without blades engaged). Is there a way to check to see if the safty feature is the problem, and it's not sending the signal to the mower to tell it that the rider is on - or perhaps bypass it (which, i know - it says not to do). Thanks for any guidence

Answer
 Hello Denis:

No Worries. This Information is in a Genera Form. To be Specific, Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower. With these Numbers I can View a Breakdown of the Mower and Better Assist you. 1- For the Reverse Safety Switch, Look Under the Shifter Lever Panel. Follow the Shift Lever from the Top to the Transmission and you will See Where the Safety Switch is Located. Jumper the Switch at YOUR OWN RISK. This is to Prevent People from Backing Over Animals or Children with the Blades Turning. I Suggest you Jumper it for Diagnostic Purposes Only. 2- For the Clutch Safety Switch. Remove the Spark Plug from the Engine. Lower the Cutter Deck to the Lowest Position. Follow the Brake/Clutch Linkage From the Pedal to See where this Switch was Installed. It Depends on the Model Numbers of the Mower. Jumper this Switch. One of these 2 Switches will Cause the Problem you are Having. If the Engine Still Doesnt Click or Turn, Check for a Fuse Near the Ignition Switch. If No Fuse or the Fuse is Good, then Check the Ignition Switch. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
