John,
Hello. I have a snapper riding mower [6hp] approx. 12 years old. When shifting in to forward  on a small upwards incline I get a slow reponse.
It helps if i give it a little encouragement ie.leaning/jerking body motion forward.
It seems to not be as severe in reverse going up an incline. Also this happens if i am moving slowly [1st gear]up an incline. Any info you can provude will be gratly appreciated.
Thanks.  Peter

 Hello Peter:

The Drive Disc May be Worn. The Linkage May be Worn and Not Lining up Properly for the Speed Selected. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower. If No Model Numbers, What Size Cut is it? Does it have a Brake and a Clutch/Brake Pedals? Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

John,
Hello. Thank you for your timely response. Here is some of the info you asked about.
Model SR75   Aprox year 1993  [250610T]?
25" cut
Has clutch/brake pedal.
Last year I replaced the the disc with the rubber strip around it..I think it is the "Driven Disc".
I was thinking that it might be an issue with clearance between the driven disc and drive disc.
But I would just be guessing.
Thanks again for your help.
Sincerely,         Peter

 Hello Peter:

Is there Any Slack in the Clutch/Brake Cable? Go to this Addy http://www.partstree.net/parts.asp and Select the Snapper Manufacturer. Enter the Model # 250610T. This will Have an Illustrated Parts Breakdown you can View. The Only Adjustment is in the Cable. The Steel Spacers on the Cable are Moved to Allow for Adjustment when the Belt is Adjusted. Are the Nylon Bushings that the Main Case Piviots on Worn Out? Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

John,
Hi. Just to give you an update.
I adjusted Brake Cable.
Experimented with clutch engagement spring.
Adjusted Clutch/ brake cable for disc clearance. It seems it may have improved a little.  Actually I am out of adjustment on the clutch/brake cable and the clearance is way out .aprox ½ “. I added my own  extra spacer to the cable and I can not even engage the lock on the  parking brake to measure. Although I did push the brake in with my hand, and got a visual look at the clearance. I noticed the driven disc did look a little worn… uneven rubber and also had a couple cracks. I guess maybe it may have been longer than I thought when I last changed this. Since I am out of adjustment I guess the driven disc must be worn down. What do you think?. Thanks for the link and info.
Peter

Answer
 Hello Peter:

If you are getting Uneven Wear on the Rubber Driven Disc, then you need to Replace the Driven Disc and the Drive Disc. For the Uneven Wear, then the Drive Disc is Worn and causes the Uneven Wear on the Driven Disc. This will also cause the Driven Disc to Wear out Faster than Normal. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens. Thanks.

 Good Luck
