Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Spring On Mower Deck, craftsman lt2000, tension spring

Question

John,
I have a Craftsman LT2000 model # 917.275520
I found a spring on the deck but I don't know where it goes.
I think it should somehow hook to the idler pulley and and keep tension off the belt when
the blades are disengaged.
Is this a tension spring that keeps the mower blades from turning when mower is disengaged?
When I engage the blades they work BUT when I disengage them they still turn alittle and the pulley does not back away from the belt.
Also, there is certainly less tension on the lever when I start to push the lever that engages the blades. The cable is sloppy without this spring.
This spring is smaller than 2 others I see on the deck.
The Sears.com link shows the same diagram as my manual and I can't see where or how the spring hooks onto the pulley.
I think it may be the "spring return idler #148" (not sure).
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Gee Wizz

Answer
 Hello Bill:

On the Diagram, Number 148(spring) connects to Number 55 and the Other End will Attach to a Spring Bracket or the Bolt. Some of these Decks have a Spring Bracket Similar to Number 142, Only Shorter for this Spring to Hook to. Some Hook the Spring to Number 30 and Some have a Slot in the Deck for the Spring to Hook into.  Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
