The diagrams at Sears show only a wiring harness but no schematic. Is the stator part of the engine as it's not shown on the Sears diagram. If it's part of the engine can it be tested and replaced?

I have a Craftsman model 917.254940 and was wondering how the charging system works during operation. What voltage should I read across the battery when it's running? If not up to spec what can I check? Is there a schematic avaialble?

 Hello R Feine:

You can View a Schematic/Diagram at this Addy http://www3.sears.com/. Click the Lawn Equipment Block. Then Follow the Directions to the View Diagram Section. The Voltage should Read 12.5VDC to 13.5VDC. If the Mower Is Not Charging, then the Stator is Most Likely Bad. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Hello R Feine:

The Stator is Part of the Engine. You have to Use the Engine Model, Type and Code Numbers at a Different Site to see the Stator. Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Of of the Engine and I can Give you a Site Addy to View the Engine Diagram. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello R Feine:

Your Engine has a Stator and a Voltage Regulator. Go to http://www.odref.com/briggsandstratton/model-30/303700-ms9727-0703.pdf and on Page 8 you can see the Stator(#474 thru 474E) and the Regulator(#501 thru 501B). Unplug the Voltage Regulator and Check the Voltage. Should be 13.0VDC to 13.5VDC or Higher. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
