Question
thanks for the response. I replaced the battery and its still not starting. When I turn the key I can see the starter turning but the gear on the starter is not going to the flywheel. Could the starter be weak?

Question -
I have a Murray riding mower and it won't start. I had the starter checked and its good, I replaced the solenoid. When i turn the key I hear a clicking noise from the solenoid and I can see the starter working, just not turning the flywheel.

Answer -
Hi James
sorry for the delay- vacation

1- Remove and clean the connections to the battery and solenoid
2- Replace the battery

Lemme know how this goes

Answer
Hi again James-

The starter has a plastic sleeve inside that has a spiral cut in it.  This sleeve is supposed to drive the starter gear up into the flywheel.  Sounds like yours is stripped out.  Find a local shop that rebuilds starters/alternators (yellowpages)  They can fix this for you.
