Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Rear engine rider chain, hot air balloon, model craftsman

Question
I just purchased an older model craftsman rider, rear engine, 8 hp, sorry, dont know model number or anything... anyhow,, this has a chain for the gear shift, while I was on a small hill, i shifted my weight and put the chain on a bind, i guess, and the chain broke... I know I can get this chain in different places,,, its like a bike chain, but a little larger... the chain looks like it came from the gear box, down throught the body of the mower, to the motor,, gear box is under the seat where the battery sits. my biggest problem is so far,, I cant figure out how to get the rear right wheel off... it has a plastic cap on it, and looks kinda like a mushroom but tapers off ,,,, almost like a hot air balloon... do I just break this plastic off, or is there anothe way, because I dont want to break anything if I dont have too... I want to start my own lawn care service, and I paid 75 bucks for this mower about 2 weeks ago. broke it first time used...lol.. I have a push mower, so my lawn is ok for now,, and a weed eater... but the rider was my main start of trying to offer lawn maintenance to people.. other than that, it needs some other work done to it, but if can move,,, then cant cut... Im depending on this to help start my own business, because its what I know how to do, hope to get a walk behind on ebay too,, but it needs a whole motor,,, but the frame is brand new,,, only used once, then engine blew...lol.. might pick up for 100 bucks... but until then, have to get this working.. thanks, and sorry i chattered on...

Answer
 Hello Timothy:

Good Luck on your Business. I have Been where you are At. Take a Razor Knife (or sharp Pocket Knife) and Slice the Boot Just Behind the Locking Ridge. When you are ready to Put the Cap Back on, use a Hose Clamp to Hold the Cap to the Rim and then Seal the Split with Silicone. I have Tried for Several Years to Remove these Boots and Have Found that Replacing them with New Ones is Quicker and Easier. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
