Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B & S 12.5 HP Engine, crankcase oil, hp engine

Question
When I try to start the engine it will run a few seconds and die. Smokes bad, acts like it is flooding.  I have replaced the spark plug and needle valvle and float but still does the same thing. This is my fourth season with the mower and has been running fine. I mowed with it last week but when I went out to start it again it started this. I know the orginal needle valve was stuck open because it drained the gas tank.

Answer
 Hello James:

Did you Drain the Oil from the Crankcase. If the Carburator Drained the Tank, then the Gas went into the Cylinder and Most Likely Seeped into the Crankcase Oil. Replacing the Needle isnt going to Help you Really. The Varnish that Caused the Needle to Stick is Inside the Jets of the Carburator. Is the Smoke White? If so, then Change the Oil. It has Gas in it. If it is Black Smoke then Completely Clean and Overhaul the Carburator. Hope this Helps. Let mw know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
